PALLADIUM triumphs in IDEE 155th Deutsches Derby (Gr.1) for Liberty Racing 2022

As if he had heard the Derby speech by Liberty Racing founder Lars-Wilhelm Baumgarten, who had spoken the evening before about how love makes the impossible possible, PALLADIUM did just that yesterday at Hamburg-Horn: he made the seemingly impossible possible and won the €650,000 IDEE 155th German Derby (Gr.1) as a long shot.

Prepared to perfection by trainer Henk Grewe, the three-year-old Gleneagles colt ran a fantastic race under Thore Hammer-Hansen and shone in the highlight of the year with all the qualities that make a great racehorse.

PALLADIUM bolted out of the gates and was immediately settled by Hammer-Hansen on the outside where he found room for an undisturbed trip in stalking position to the lead. Entering the final straight, the pair chose the far outside lane. There, PALLADIUM shifted up a gear and fought like a lion along the long Hamburg straight to catch Borna, who had been in the lead until then.

The stewards recorded a neck advantage for the three-year-old's biggest success to date, who visibly enjoyed the frenetic cheers of his shareholders, some of whom had even travelled from the U.S. and Australia to watch him win.

A day of triumph for Liberty Racing's 2022 syndicate - and Liberty Racing itself, as this success marks the second Derby win in the brand's four-year history after Fantastic Moon’s victory last year!

As Baumgarten mentioned in his speech the previous evening, great successes in horse racing do not usually fall from the sky, but are the result of many people who work passionately, meticulously and with a great deal of love for the horses in their care on a daily basis.

PALLADIUM was bred by Stiftung Gestüt Fährhof and, like all Liberty horses, completed his pre-training at Gestüt Ohlerweiherhof and is looked after by trainer Henk Grewe and his fantastic team.
