Fantastic Moon runs in the Arc!

27. Sep 2023

Derby winner Fantastic Moon will be nominated for the 2023 Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe in Paris-Longchamp next Sunday.

Trainer Sarah Steinberg has just announced: "Fantastic Moon is doing excellently. He worked very well yesterday and coped well with the work. We are still hoping for sunshine and a good track in Paris so that he can perform at his best. We thought long and hard about which of the races would be best for Fantastic Moon and, together with the owners, decided against a long trip to the US or Japan for Fantastic Moon this year. Since the horse should continue to win for Liberty Racing 2021 in 2024, we took advantage of the great autumn weather in Paris, the dry ground in Longchamp and a Fantastic Moon who had recovered very well from his last race."

Steinberg continued: "A trip to the US at the beginning of November for the Breeders' Cup and the trip to Japan at the end of November means an enormous strain for 3-year-old horses, which we don't want to put Fantastic Moon through. The horse has shown everyone that he is a real star and we are looking forward to his last appearance in 2023 next Sunday in Paris-Longchamp. I hope that the German turf fans will keep their fingers crossed for our Derby winner and I am looking forward to a very exciting Sunday against top international opponents. There are still 11 individual Group I winners in the current field of 15. This Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe is a real monster race with the unbeaten French Derby winner Ace Impact and the older stars Hukum and Westover at the front. Fantastic Moon will travel to Paris on Saturday and will of course be ridden by Rene Piechulek."
