Liberty Racing 2020 has also sold its last share in two-time Group II winner Assistent on Sunday. Following a partial sale last year, the syndicate still held a 10 percent stake in the Sea The Moon son, who will now compete in full for owner Eckhard Sauren in the upcoming season.
"Liberty Racing's first syndicate will come to an end on December 31, 2023 in accordance with the contract, a real success story," says Liberty Racing founder Lars-Wilhelm Baumgarten." Assistent has always given his all and shown great performances - not only in his victories - such a great horse! We say thank you," said co-founder Nadine Siepmann after the sale.
"I would like to thank Liberty Racing for the great partnership and look forward to the 2024 Grand Prix season with Assistent," said Eckhard Sauren.
In 2023, the Derby-fourth of 2022 won the Carl Jaspers Preis (Gr. II) and the Große Hansa-Preis (Gr. II). He placed at Group I level in the Großer Preis von Berlin and the Großer Preis von Bayern. In the latter, he finished behind no other than the recent Hong Kong Vase winner Junko.
"We are a bit sad, since Assistent was our first purchase at the BBAG for Liberty Racing, but our contracts clearly state that we can keep a horse for four years with a majority decision and that the syndicate is dissolved at the end of the season. To change that, the whole GBR contract would have to be changed, which would not be purposeful for a 10 percent share. It's great that he's staying in Germany with Henk Grewe - we'll be visiting him again and again and wish his new owner all the best," Lars-Wilhelm Baumgarten continues.
