The rehearsal turned out a success. After an easy victory at Hanover with Sibylle Vogt in the saddle today, three-year-old Argentum is now heading to the Derby Italiano, which will be run on May 19.
"This is a stayer and he's easy to ride, that's what makes a racehorse and a Derby horse," said winning jockey Sibylle Vogt after the race, in which the Peter Schiergen-trained colt won against Koelle and Anna Riva. The race distance was 2,200 meters, only one furlong short of the Derby distance.
"The dream is still alive," said Liberty Racing's manager Lars-Wilhelm Baumgarten after the race. "The horse gives us hope, that's what we wanted to see today. Now he’s off to Rome and then the German Derby in Hamburg."
The Zoffany-son Argentum was bred by Gestüt Brümmerhof and acquired for Liberty Racing 2022 for €75,000 euros at the BBAG auction.
Liberty Racing 2021 finished second with Winning Spirit in the 2021 Derby Italiano, who then finished fourth in the German Derby, and now the hope is that Liberty Racing 2022 will move up one place in the 2024 Italian Derby.
